THE LIQUID QUARTER - September 2007

With another race season over, I would like to congratulate all of the VDBC committee for a job well done! The time and effort put in by these people to make running the club and race meetings happen is outstanding. Thanks to all of you that helped.

It’s a shame that the year ended on such a sad note with the passing of John Mitchell from the Vic Outboard Club at our last combined drag/circuit meeting. His funeral was attended by myself and Alison, Al Joy and Wendy Howie and a lot of other boaties from around the state. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family at this sad time.

The 2007 VDBC presentation night was again a huge success. Although we were slightly down on numbers this year a good time was had by all. I would like to thank Paul and Caz Colgan for donating a raffle prize to the club for the night of a $1,000.00 voucher which was won by Gary Burdett.

The VDBC has again applied for seven race meetings from the APBA for the 2007-2008 race season. At a cost of $15,500.00, you can see why the club needs to raise money from membership, sponsors and boat entries. Every little bit helps.

With the new race season coming up quickly, its time to get the boats ready to race. We have struggled a little bit over the last couple of race seasons with boat numbers, so let’s hope this years better. I’ve heard several rumours about boats being purchased from USA and around Australia by club members. Can’t wait to see what turns up!!!
